cant get straight gasoline here anymore, all has ethenol added. First tank ruined the coating on my C-6 Zenith carb float and it sank. Made another float and coated it with 4 brushed on coats of gastank sealer as was suggested and the float sank after 3 days. Was told later that others have tried sealer and it didnt work for them either. Was totaly saturated with gas but the coating appeared to be OK. Dont know how that happened but made another float and coated with a product called Dichtol as was again suggested to me. Dipped the float in gasoline to test and it imediatly softened that coating. I'm geting tired of making floats. Anybody know what I can use to seal my cork floats? Cant use laquer with the ethonol. Thanks.

Hello I live in mexico, the product that you can use to protect your floats calls siloxirano 784/32. Only have care because while drought can damage the skin(leather). When it stops drying it resists any thing.

We are the formulators of Dichtol Metal Impregnation systems (http://diamant.ph)an easy to use 1-step product with excellent creeping properties for any kind of micro pore and hairline crack in any type of metal. Case histories over 40 years in the automotive industries for new and used metal parts. Dichtol has been used in maintenance and repair of old automotive / tractor parts like cylinder heads, engine blocks, pumps, housings, boxes,...
I would not use it to impregnate or seal cork based products but very good for any metal part.
Dichtol is based on solvents but also available on hydro- and bio-base from our JV partner in Cincinnati (diacoat@cs.com)
Hope to have served, Achim

I think almost any type of Epoxy resin will stand up to alchohols and gasoline. Do a google search for W.E.S.T. epoxy sold through Jamestown distributors. It has a thin brushable consistency.

replace it with a brass or plastic float
you won't be sorry trying to coat it with something will be more trouble then it worth.

Any carburetor shop can make you a new float out of a foam type plastic (the name escapes me) made for this purpose. They are impervious to ethanol.

How about marine varnish. Valspar makes one. As I recall, that is what OEM used to use but alkahol was not in the recipe then.

www Valspar and ask them if they have a product that resists it. They are in most hardware stores.
