The carburator float on my JD 40 appears to be too low since the carb fills full of gas and overflows and spills out, gets in exhaust, etc. Is there a way to adjust the float? All I see is the small spring on the pin controlled by the float. The float appears to be ok (no holes or cracks). Any advice is appreciated.

Turn the carburetor upside down so that the float is sticking up. Hold the body of the carburetor level, and adjust the float so that it is level also. You adjust it with the small "tang" that is resting on the needle near where it pivots.
