I have been kicking the tires on some new tractors and have found huge variation in 3 point arm lift capacity.

Any one know what it is on these old fords???

thanks

Harold

With a 3" piston and 2500 psig (Ford 1000 series, '60 vintage) theoretically, you could lift about 5500 lbs. Practically, I can lift a 2000 lb round bale and transport it safely (front weights). Lot of losses in the circuit and the little tractor wouldn't hold up to lifting something 1.5 times it's weight.

I was looking at a new JD 990. I like it because it is simple with out all the electronics of all new tractors. It reminds me of my 861.

But the lift capacity at 24 inches is 1573 LBs

It weights about the same as my 861 at 3,200 LBs

It may not be an issue...but I don't know???

From where? If they are talking about picking up a pallet with a weight sitting on it that is 24" from the end of the 3 pt, that is a pretty good lift. It's a foot/pound thing.

A 2000 lb round bale is 60" wide so the pressue at 24" is (60-24)/60 x 2000 = 1200 lbs.

Or the average weight of the bale is 2000#. Half the wt is 1000 lbs, half the distance down it (30").

30/24 = 1.25 x 1000 = 1250 lbs wt vs 1573 lift cap.

Looks good from here.
