I have a very rusty 1939 JD Model H sitting out in the woods and it's crying to be restored. My daddy bought it new the year after I was born. It was retired when one of the push rod tubes in the block rusted through and let coolent get into the engine. I see that lots of books are available on tractor restoration but I have found no comparitive reviews. Which are the BEST books?

Jack,

I can't give a comparison review but I do like the one I have..."How to restore your farm tractor" by Robert N. Pripps. This has a good overview of restoration concepts that can be applied to any model. As good as this book is, it cannot replace the specific shop manual for the tractor you have. These two books plus this excellent forum should cover almost any problem you will have to deal with in your restoration. All the best.
