I am on my first engine work on a 1947 model B. No. 1 piston had burned through top 2 lands with damage to side above top ring grove, but no hole thru piston. Both pistons are aluminum & No. 2 piston is in good condition. Aluminum pistons (stamped .045)have 4 compression rings & 1 two piece oil ring. I ordered new ring set & 1 piston from local J D dealership. Recieved a steel, 3 compression, 1 oil ring piston. Also recieved 2 sets of 3 compression, 1 (one piece) oil ring set. Top of the oil ring is not marked. Does champfer on oil ring go toward top of piston? Can I mix the Aluminun & new steel piston on the same crankshaft?

Any help or direction will be appreciated. Jim

Chamfer goes toward skirt of piston so as to inhance insertion of piston with rings into cylinder. Don't mix the pistons. Get the same for both. You will not be sorry later.
