this is so crazy...I am helping a friend fix up 28 acres in east texas and in the barn we found a 1941 Farmall Model M..the prior owner says it ran great but hasn't been used in 2-3 years(looks more like 10) spark plug wires missing, tires all flat, front left tire blow seal, cleaned the distributor and gettin new wires, the engine is free and turns when cranked(yea my dad laughed that it is a hand crank start) I have driven a modern JD 2800 and this is all new to me....the peddle configuration is a guess...
I assume the one on the left is the clutch, the outside right is the brake and the inside right is the throttle??? is that right?? seems a standard H pattern is that right...is there a secret to startin it? I am going to pull the gas tank and clean it change the oil and gear box fluids..and radiator too..any i am missin
To all it may concern....Thank you now for all the help I will be askin questions often and needin alot of help...but hey we all started learnin somewhere

Might i suggest you read some of the stories in this forum, that people have written of life on the farm, etc., before you try to crank that engine! Here's a tip! First: Do not wrap your thumb around the crank!! Its a good way to get yer thumb broke, pronto! Second: Do not push down on the crank!! (This will get you deposited on top of the hood!) Quickly!!(I found this out by doing just that when cranking my Model T Ford! Fortunately, it didn't break my arm!) Third:Lift up on the crank sharply, and pull the crank out at the end of your pull-up! Give it a few short sharp lift ups. If the engine is tuned correctly, it should start on the first or second pull! Just remember this: Hand-crank machinery seems to have a mind of its own! Some days ya can't get it to co-operate at all, other days it comes to life fairly easily! by: Rusty Jones

The throttle is on the steering column, left pedal is the clutch, the two right ones are the left and right brakes -- gearshift is:
R 2 4
1 3 5

I hope I'm not around when you get it started.
