What size is the ballast resistor to run my 2N on 12 volt with a 6 volt coil?

Here's a couple of opinions on the 6 - 12 Volt converting resistor. The diagrams apply to 8N's, so the starter circuit is different, but the ignition converting reistor would be the same.

One recommended resistor is mentioned in the text at the site below. (Delco-Remy D-1106)

On the following site, the resistor is shown in the 5TH diagram from the top.

Thanks for the info Bob. Just what I was looking for. I am an electrician with contacts in electronics and an older retired freind that deals with old Fords as a business/hobby, but I could not find the answere to replacing my burnt resistor. (I killed the engine, left the key on, then put the battery charger on it) Sometimes I try hard to mess up stuff.

More info...

Some talk of using up to 3 ohms resistance in addition to the original ballast resistor. It might be a good idea to start high, and see if the spark is adequate, rather than too low and overheating and "killing" the coil.

You want to measure about 4.5 Volts at the coil, signition switch "ON", engine not running, with the breaker points "closed".
