I was wondering if anyone can tell me if a Case DC has a positive or negative ground.Just got one and I'm not sure they had the battery hooked up right. Thanks

Thanks for your help! There is a 12v battery in the DC now, should I replace it with a 6v? Does the fact that they put a 12v battery in it mean they did any kind of"conversion" to the starting or charging system? They probably just put the 12v battery in because thats all they had. Will using a 12v battery hurt anything? The tractor has no lights now. Thanks again

I prefer original 6v battery, mag, and generator. If engine is in good codition it will start anytime. 12 volt will not hurt starter and will work if you have a magneto. If it has a distributor instead of mag and it has a 12 volt alternator you may as well stay with the 12 v battery. Most of the time when they change to 12 v they use pos ground, depends on the alt.

Thanks, you've been very helpful. Can you tell me how to determine if the alt/or gen.is 6v or 12v.? it looks original, older than the hills. There are some numbers on it but nothing readable that looks like a voltage indication. It has a distributor. If it is a 6v alternator can I still stay with 12v battery? I definetly want to hook up as positive ground then with 12v.? Thanks again

If it looks old and is original it is a 6 v generator. If you are going to stay with 12 v battery you must have a 12 v coil or a resistor dropping the voltage down if you have a 6 v coil and you will need a 12 v alternator or a 12 v generator (different animals). If you insist on the 12 v battery you might as well get a new 12 v alt. and coil so you know you are right. Personally I would get a 6 v battery, have the generator checked, and get a mag. Problem solved for a long time.
