My employer has 500 + lbs of S110 steel shot that they are giving away....S110 size is very fine....all has to be smaller than 0.0234 inches.
I dont own a sandlbaslter, but plan to buy one in the future....can this stell shot be used to clean farm equipemnt, maybe tracotrs, wagons, etc to prepare for painting? Or am I better off getting that black beauty stuff??? How much does it cost for black beauty? Just wondering if this steel shot is worth getting or just let it be scrapped.

Thanks!

Markus,

Although I don't know the size they use, machine shops use steel shot all the time. They call it "Glass Beading" for some reason. ???

Allan, The cabinets that use steel shot are called shot blast cabinets, the shot is propelled by a mechanical slinger. Cabinets using glass beads, sand or other abrasive media use air to propell the media.

Hey! if it's free, go for it. The steel shot may be a bit heavy for a siphon type blaster, but I would think it should work good in a pressure type. Don't use it for any sheet metal though, you could warp it. That steel shot might also work good in a tumbler for cleaning up nuts, bolts, etc.
