If I open the crank case top at the base of the steering column, can I get to the top section of the oil filter and pump? The threads where the bolt supporting the filter screws in is cracked. Does anyone know how to repair this. Any help is greatly appreciated.. It is a 1949 John Deere model A.

It is accessible, but you need a lot of patience and a variety of wrench sizes. Disconnect all of the oil lines from the filter head before you take the 3 cap screwws loose from inside the filter body. I'm having the same problem with my B right now.
