Repairing the reflectors

Does anyone know a good way to repair the silver coatings in the reflectors of the head lamps of a tractor? There is aluminium paint available which is meant for repainting or correcting chromed surfaces. I think it would be shiny enough but will it stand the heat produced by the bulb? And how high would the temperature be inside the lamp? It is a 12 volt system. Any help is appreciated.

Why not swap out the bulb/reflector set-up for a sealed beam set-up? They sell sealed beam lights in both 6V and 12V. Most anywhere that carries a good selection of auto parts will be able to sell you the 12V. IH dealers at least used to carry a 6V sealed beam light. Don't have the part number with me right now, they're out in the shop, and it's snowing like crazy. (Sure hope the weather jockeys don't understate this forecast, - 5" to 8")

Use high temp paint for engines or headders.

Paint will not work at all. You will need to get them re-silvered at an electroplating shop. Try looking in Hemmings if you need some references.

Don't know about painting them. I have taken some to an Electroplating Firm and had them re-nickel coat mine. (The finish on the original is nickel and not chrome). As long as they are not decayed or severely rusted, they can make them look like new. The ones I had done cost me $15 ea. //FB
