I am in process of painting my 1980 ford 6600 tractor. I need to get the steering wheel off to remove the front cowl/dashboard housing. Is there a special type Puller available or another way this might be done? Thanks for any tips

I'm getting ready to replace the steering wheel on my Super C as well and found all the posts helpful.

I figure I now have a 50 50 chance of pulling the wheel without losing my two front teeth or falling backwards off the tractor!

Cheers!
Bill

NAPA, etc will have an automotive puller. If there are two tapped holes in your hub, it will probably work with the correct bolts.

I almost took a header pulling my steering wheel on my NAA recently when it finally came off suddenly. I tried soaking, tapping, pulling, beating, and almost cussing. It didn't budge until I just touched it with the torch, then it took me by surprise and came right off, leaving me teetering with the lit torch in one hand, the hammer in the other, and the steering wheel somewhere in between. It's funny now, but it coulda been anything but, so be careful.

Flush with the end of the shaft. Protects the shaft from hammer distortion and stops the wheel from knocking you silly.

I did the same thing, except with MAPP gas -- had all the pressure I dared put on the puller, heated it for a couple of minutes, it popped of and landed on the floor.
