Need new rings - am blowing blue smoke right now. Seems like an easy job - anything I need to watch out for? Where do I buy the clamp to hold the rings in tight when I put the piston back into the cylinder, and where do I buy calipers to measure the cylinder diameter?
Hate to be doing this job in an unheated barn in December. Hey ho..... Happy Holidays!

You will need a ridge reamer of appropriate size, to remove the wear ridge at the top of ring travel, or you risk damaging the new rings.

If the ring grooves are worn, the pistons should be replaced, or the grooves cut for wider rings, or added spacers.

And, of course, if the bore is worn too big, or too out-of-round, a rebore job and bigger pistons and rings are needed.

The tools you need will be at an auto parts store. Make sure when you put the new rings on that all the ring gaps are off set never in line with each other. Also make sure that when you handle any of the parts you have clean oil on your hands/fingers the acids in your fingers can and will hurt the parts. I always use STP oil treatment when putting an engine back togeather
