Well the timing cover has a nice big hole in it, any one want to comment on it?

I ran into that once- a bolt holding the aluminum gear housing to the block came loose, the cam gear grabbed it and put a hole in the gear housing, just under the fan hub. Cummins came out with some new fancy bolts to prevent that problem, and a better gear housing gasket.

Did the dowel pin come out? This pin aligns the timing case to block. What year is it?

That has happened quite a bit on Dodge pickups with the 12 valve Cummins engine. There is a fix to prevent it from happening. Go to www.turbodieselregister.com and look for "killer dowel pin" or "kdp"
