Was wondering if someone could tell me if it is possible to turn the ring gear on the flywheel backswords in order to use the unused part of the gear.

Have done it on ring gears that did not have an off set to Them. Turn them over, and then with a small hand grinder. grind a little relief on the gear like it was on the bad side. Gene Davis

While I do not know about the British made stuff I will give you the American made general answer.

NO you can not. A ring gear is made with a very slight taper of the teeth to aid in gear meshing.

But there is a way to repair it. Since a B-414 is a 4 cylinder you will notice that the ring gear is only worn in 2 spots. A 4 cylinder will only stop in 1 of 2 spots every time. If you remove the ring gear and turn it on the flywheel 90 degrees you can put it back on and use different teeth.

I am not the expert and don't have a 414, but I heard of people doing that -- to be sure ask on the Farmall forum.
