The left power steering cylinder rod on my 1966 Ford 3000 bent today while snow plowing. It looks like the ball connector attaching the cylinder to the tie rod is shot as is the ball end at the rear of the tie rod and the front drag link. So I decided to replace all of the ball connectors. Tearing down the tie rod and cylinder turns out to be more complicated than I thought. HOW DO I REMOVE THOSE BALL CONNECTORS? Are they screwed in or do I have to use some sort of puller or am I suppose to bang them out? And if they are screwed in, do I loosen them counter-clockwise? Also, it looks like I need to remove the steering arm to remove the rear end ball joint on the tie rod. Once the bolt is removed connecting the arm to the tractor, do I need a puller to remove the arm? If so, what would I call it in order to buy one? Finally, in removing the rear end of the radius rod, which it looks like I need to do to remove the clyinder rear ball end, do I have to remove the two nuts at the rear end of the radius arm to finally get off the cylinder rear ball end? Thanks.....

The cylinder ends are ball joints and you will have to drive them out or use a tie rod fork to wedge between joint . Sometimes you can pry on the ball joint with a bar and tap on top of the piece it is in and it will break loose. As a rule those cylinders aren't that hard to get loose. You should be able to take the big arm ..radius rod ..loose from tractor and pull it out enough to get rear of cylinder off if needed. But usually you should have enough room to get nut off big end with out messing with the radius rod. Also you will need to jack up tractor if you remove that radius rod with the two bolt cap as the tractor wants to settle and the radius rod jumps up. Of course those are one piece cylinders and you have to buy the whole cylinder and there is after market cylinders available . any questions email me. later Gary
