I have heard of folks useing JB Weld to repair cracked headswith good sucess. I have a Super M that has a cracked head And would like some ideas about repairing it with JB. The crack is between the cylinder and a water port hole.

Cranked up my VAC a month ago and discovered massive cracks both in the cylinder head and the block..... ..ran out of antifreeze I think. I bought a replacement head on ebay but thought I would give JB Weld a try on the old head and block before installing the replacement head. So far, not a leak detected where as before water gushed out of the cracks in the head just as quickly as I could pour it in the radiator.

Cleaned off the paint, roughed up the areas around the cracks, turned on the heaters and slapped on the JB Weld. I was amazed! The photos do not do justice to the cylinder crack head. The crack horseshoed down on both sides of the water jacket and can't be seen the the pics.

Get some stock in JB Weld!

DH

I have repaired a lot of IHC heads. I have used Irontite and Lock-N-Stitch both are good if done right . Try www.locknstich.com you can see how it is done. Earl In Illinois

JB Weld will not work on a crack as described. Your best bet is to take the head to a good automotive machine shop and get them to repair it properly.

I use lots of JB Weld and while it's a great product it won't work in that appplication. It's good up to 650F. It will not hold where there is a lot of thermal expansion or pressure either. I've used it successfully to repair cracks from the water jacket to the outside; that's only 15 psi and maybe 200F.

Thanks for the reply. JB is a good product but it too has it's place and limitations I will not be useing it to repair the head because of the location of crack
