I am just about at the stage to re-assembly my engine and I am wondering what others more experienced in tractor restoration have done? Do most people re-assemble the engine and paint as a complete unit, thereby covering gaskets, bolts, etc.. Or besdies the extra work, is there and advantage to painitng the individual components and assembling. What was done at the factory?

Thanks.

I've restored two tractors and painted the pieces before reassembly. Everything is clean at that point. It also looks nice when every place you look you see nice clean painted surfaces. Even the hard to get at spots.

Jason,

I always paint the pieces first, for two

reasons . one - many of the parts are behind

another when assembled and you can't get to

the burried one to paint it . Two -- it is

quite tricky to assemble an engine without

getting an oily finger print on it , paint

won't stick to oily spots .

When assembled wash lightly to get the oil spots

off , then do a touch up and finish coat .
