I have a 1940 Oliver RC 70 that has a distributor on the right hand side. The spark plug wires were removed. I have a manual that shows the magneto system and the spark plug wire placement. Is the placement on the distributor cap the same, and which position is #1?

I am not familiar with your tractor but, in general, remove the plugs, put your finger over #1 plug hole, and turn the engine in running direction until you feel compression. Continue turning until the piston is near the top, if you can see or carefully feel in the cylinder with a wire. The rotor should then point to the #1 wire terminal. If you do not know the firing order, do the same with the other cylinders.
