Anyone have suggestions for EASILY removing old, hard caked grease? I'm talking about the thick, dried stuff you just about have to chisel off. I haven't found any sort of spray or soak solvent that works effectively. Burning it off with a torch stinks and scorches the paint. Suggestions?

Thanks,

JackT

Hot water with TSP trisodium phosphate which can be purchased at the hardware. Better way would be to incorporate the idea of a pressure washer with a soap induction system using the tsp. This method may leave your paint chalky though.

Oven cleaner from the dollar store. About a dollar a can and really works. May discolor paint if left too long.

There is no easy way, only elbow grease. I have used all sorts of putty knives, custom scrapers and dental probes to remove every bit of the waxy residue possible, then use Gunk with a very stiff bristle brush. Probably will have to repeat the scrubbing part a couple times.

Would a steam cleaner work?

Jack I used a sharp wood chisel and a sharp knife and then washed it with degreaser. It is just one of the nasty jobs that goes with working on a tractor. Sand blasting don't even cut it very well.

Some say MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) but its rough on the liver if you get it on your skin so wear rubber gloves.

Hot high pressure washer. Expensive to buy, but maybe one can be rented or hire someone with one to come clean your machine.

You need to scrape the big stuff , but after that use OVEN CLEANER.
Most any kind works but MR. Muscle works the best. Its meant to work on cold surfaces
