Hi! My husband just purchased a Cub Cadet 102- we were told it ran great, but now it doesn't run at all! He tried charging battery, tried Starter Fluid, fresh gas, all the basics. It will turn over, and after Starter Fluid was sprayed, it sounded like it was starting up, but kept stalling. Any ideas? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!!

but look for a gas shut off or take the carb apart adn clean the blue blazzes out of it with carb cleaner. it could just be varnised up a bit and not gettin gas at least thats what it sounds like to me

You really should try to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem first. Spray a little carb cleaner in the carb, choke it, and crank it. If it runs a second, its a fuel problem. Also check the fuel shut off.

Most likely the points are corroded. You are in luck, since the kohler has external points. They are in a little box on the block front right side or left. Before you clean (with 400 grit or finer) or replace them, just take the cover off and crank it. You should see a spark. If you don't they are crudded up. Leaving the ignition on with it not running will burn them up, but they just get pitted from use anyway. I would say 80% or more of non running engines I have bought have had dirty, corroded points. I buy them at consignment auctions, replace the points and sell them for a nice profit.

You will figure it out. It is a minor problem either way. Part of owning old stuff.
