Broke the pto shaft off, wondering how i can install a new one without breaking the entire tractor in half? if you know an easier way, please help me out!

Broke my D17 shaft years ago- only thing needed was to drain the oil, remove three bolts holding the bearing retainer around the shaft, and pull it out to the rear. I would guess the 160 is similar.

I did the above, drained oil, removed 3 bolts holding the barron retainer. I pull it out so far, and then it just stops, could there be a nut on the end of the PTO shaft that isnt letting it come on out? Appreciate the help!

The only answer to that is the shop manual, or a call to the dealer. The schematic in the parts or shop manual should have the details. I'm fortunate in having a dealer within 17 miles, plus over the last 30+ years, I've written boocou checks to him, and now his sons, so when I need to ask him a question like that,- he responds. I also buy the shop and parts manuals, so when I call, I call with part numbers. They appreciate the numbers, so when I call with a shortline machine problem, they are willing to spend the time to find the part, just like the local JD dealer.
