IH 350 Utility steering problem

I looked at an IH 350 utility at a dealer and like it except the power steering wasn't working. A mechanic poured oil into the small hole on the steering box behind the engine and in front of the transmission and it ran out the bottom of the box as fast as he poured it in. There appeared to be a hole in a softplug? The tractor steered hard and would stick when turned hard to right or left. Any ideas? Should I make an "as is" offer?

Hole in softplug or softplug worked its way out and is leaking. Probably have to take the steering gearbox off to fix it, which is a pain in the butt, but not difficult.

Like D Wells indicated, the P/S gets its hydraulic power from the hydraulic system and should be able to power its way thru any minor sticking. They don't make the P/S unit or most of its parts anymore, so if it doesn't work, it could be a major expense, as used P/S units were running about $600 last I checked about 4 years ago. Or if it's just a lack of lube, it could be a 2 dollar fix.

Your call.

I have a IH 350 Utility and the power steering runs off the Hyd pump of the tractor. I do have some leaks in mine and have to watch very close not to run the tractor dry.
