A buddy of mine just replaced his 8N (1952) steering box with another. Now, we can't seem to get the alignment correct. We can get the pitman arms off and gears out no problem and adjust the splines to get full control authority, but we can't seem to increase and decrease the length of the tie rods...they are rusted tight. Without being able to manipulate the tie rods, we can get it close but not correct. Any hints/tips on adjusting the tie rods or getting the alignment right would be appreciated. Tony

You have to adjust the tie rods to align the tractor. The clamps are usually rusted tight and the bolt is usually bent. Use penetrating oil for a few hours and get those clamps loose on the front and back. Then, use a open end wrench in the flat spots on the hollow tube to turn it. This will move the wheel in or out depending on what you need.

Good luck,
Dan
