I am fixing a for Jubilee for a friend. I have replaced the generator and the voltage regulator already. Now when I start the tractor the ammeter moves into the negative. It gets worse as I give it more throttle and when I hook up the battery, the ammeter pegs out on the positive side. It just started to do this after I replaced the generator and regulator. The generator is charging at 7.3 volts. The armature on the regulator shows 7.3 volts. the Bat. on the regulater shows 6.8 volts. I also noticed that the tractor is not positive ground and I heard that those tractors are supposed to be positive ground. I don't know if these things are all related or not. Any help would be greatfull for any help. Thanks

Hi Zac,
If the bat terminal on the regulator is showing 6.8 v, then it should be charging. Check to make sure that the ammeter is hooked up right. I think that may be your problem. To check, turn the key on so the lights have power, but don't start the tractor. then turn on the lights. note which way the needle on the ammeter goes. If it shows a charge, then the ammeter is hooked up backwards.

Go to the Ford board with this. Experts there.
