Dan and Jerry is correct in methods the only thing that I use that is different is 50 cal lead shot or big sinkers in the tank to shake around in the tank. Less apt to cause any sparks.

I did kind of what dad did. Called the radiator shop and got advice first. Then took tank to car wash and gave it a good washing with soap then rinsed well. Took a few choice driveway rocks and rumbled them around to loosen any flaking rust and rinsed again. Then had some gas tank sealer I got from an antique car supply (recommended by radiator shop) and used it. Worked wonderfully and didn't cost much.

I do not know if it is approved by OSHA or not!
I take a handfull of nuts, bolts and washers of various sizes and put them in the tank. Before doing this, make sure you can remove them without much difficulty. (Check for baffles, odd compartments, etc.) Then add some kerosene or parts washer, NOT GAS!, and swish it around several times, empty it out, and rinse with clean solution. Repeat and rinse as many times as needed!

Just be careful to make certain that nothing sparks while there being rolled around otherwise they will go BOOM! I would recomend using lots and lots of water and detergent, then doing the rattle thing. Although I havn't tried it yet, I saw "Eastwood" company has a gas tank sealent.

I just did my AC-WD and used warm soapy water first with nuts and bolts and bb's . then put in some muratic acid and let soak overnight. Turning it over and around every 3 hours. It was amazing! You could see a line in the tank seperating the finished and the unfinished side. It looked brand new when I was done. I used bolts and such because i once used rocks in my hawgs gas tank and like to have never got them all out. This way I could use a magnet to get the stubborn ones. Just my 2 cents. Good luck

Hey use about a foot and a half of 1/4 or 3/8 chain that way you can reach in with a coat hanger to retrieve everything. but wash with soap first. then. I rewash rinse with gas let air out then and the tank sealer!good luck
