I have a 1942 JD B,changed plugs, drained gas, good blue spark and pretty sure timing is on. When trying to start she'll putt, pop and sputter but just won't take off. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

But are you getting enough gas to the carb?? Is it hand start or does it have a starter?? If its hand start you may have to give it a pull to get it running. I had to do that the first couple times with my JD-B 1935. It had sat for years and I put $1000 worht of new parts on but still had to pull it to get it running at first. Pulled it maybe 10 feet and it was running from there all I had to do was fine tune every thing.

The problem I had on my '36 B was that it would try to start on impulse but wouldn't run, or run very poorly -- is this what your problem is?

What it turned out to be was the impulse was dead on, but the run timing was something like 60 degrees BTDC -- should be 36 degrees if I remember right. Turns out who ever worked on the mag before I got it misinterpreted the JD manual on the setting of the impulse. (Found the problem by marking degree marks on the flywheel and hooking up a timing light to the LH cylinder.)
