TRACTOR WAS REWIRED TO A 12 VOLT SYSTEM RAN GREAT FOR AWHILE. SHORTED OUT DUE TO MISSING GROMMET ON AMP METER CAUSING IT TO GROUND OUT.!!FRIED THE WIRES!!..PUT ON NEW AMP METER AND WIRING, NOW GOT POWER TO EVERTHING BUT THE STARTER WONT ENGAGE. WHEN I HIT THE STARTER BUTTON THERE IS NO POWER GOING TO THE SOLENOID. THE SWITCH HAS POWER IN THE ON POSITION AND OFF IN THE OFF POSITION. IT HAS A STARTER BUTTON CONECTED TO THE TRANSMISION WHICH HAS ALREADY BEEN TESTED FOR A GOOD GROUND. HELP

Well, on this 12-Volt conversion, the (+) battery cable would go direct to the starter solenoid. So, if you have no power the the solenoid, you have a dead battery, or one or both of the battery cables have a dirty connection at one end or the other, or one of the battery cables is bad.

Make sure the selonoid is grounded, most are internal grounded, but some old ones worked by grounding one side (with the push button smitch). Some where in the change over process this may have been changed.
