While relining fuel tank, I notice a small crack where the filler neck is connected to the tank. Is soldering the best way to repair? Any special type of solder?

Also, the gasket on the fuel cap is hard, dry and cracked. Do suppliers carry replacement gaskets? I'd like to keep the original cap and just replace the gasket rather than buying a replacement cap.

Thanks for your responses!

I'd only recommend a gas tank repair if you've taken the tank off, drained for a day or two, lined it with some motor oil, and have the cap and sed-bowl removed. Blow air through it to get the fumes out, then silver solder works great, but be sure to use flux so it will run right into the cracks like fluid. You will want a torch with a soldering wedge-tip and not a solder gun. Also, I've had great luck with JB Weld in problem areas that need to be re-tapped.

Just a thought...

If you are going to run a torch on a gas tank, you owe it to your family to update your will first. They don't go "bang" every time, but it does happen.
