I got some new standard tines for my Troybilt tiller and would like to hardface them with my AC Welder. Never done this before, so not sure where to put bead, how many passes or individual stringers and best rod to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought some hardfaced tines for mine and the bead in on the top surface on the bevel..The bead is fairly flat with it thinner at the cutting edge. I have seen others with the bead on the bottom. That was with the last set I had. Good luck

Find a copy of the "Machinery's Handbook", Amoung the millions of other things they have a welding section with good information on hardfacing. If you can buy the book, they're expensive. If not go check on out at the library. Personally I don't think I could accomplish much with out mine.

You might find a good used copy.
