I have a 1968 Ford 3000. My father and I are in the process of restoring this machine. Before we paint and install the new sheet metal we need to fix a PTO issue. When there is no load on the PTO it will engage fine. When I attach a bushhog it will not engage when the machine is running. If I engage the PTO when the machine is off and then start it up the PTO works fine????? Any pointers on where I need to start. It has a live 540 PTO.

Shonn, if you have a 3000 with live PTO, it has a two stage clutch with two clutch discs. One stops the tractor and the other stops the PTO. The only adjustment you have on the outside for this problem is the height of the clutch pedal. You may not have enough travel to stop the PTO. Adjust the pedal higher with the clevis/rod slightly and try that...Kelly.
