I have a 1951 Ford 8N with the side mount distributor. The tractor would not start. Upon investigating the reason, I discovered that the rotor inside the distributor was not rotating. I removed the distributor and observed the distributor drive gear located on the end of camshaft not turning. I removed the timing gear cover and discovered the distributor drive gear free spining on the end of the camshaft. The drive gear has no key way and appears to be pressed on. Is that true in this model of tractor? Is there a way to fix this without R&R of the camshaft? Is the timing gear cover designed to hold tension on the distributor drive gear when in place? Any information woud be helpful.

Move this question to the 8N, 9N, 2N section and you'll get many excellent answers.
