Does anyone know if the 9 inch cluch and the 10 inch clutch are interchangable on the Ford 600 series? The parts suppliers list both clutches that overlap on years for the model I have. I want to order the parts ahead of time so I don't have to tie up my shop with a split tractor waiting on parts. I believe it is a 1954 model but I think the 640 may have been in production between 1954 and 1957. My grandfather's Jubilee is a 53' and there is very little difference. Any one who can help me figure out the clutch problem and the year would be of great help..model 640 ser. # 2930

The first 640 was a 1955 model and can be identified by the running boards as they are flat. Most 1955 models have the 9" clutch, same as the 8N, NAA etc, but could have the 10" clutch if ordered special when the tractor was bought new. Sounds as though you have oil on the clutch, from either the engine or trans input shaft. Try slipping the clutch to burn the oil off and see if that improves the clutch chatter.....Kelly.

Thanks for the info...we've had this tractor for a couple years now and it hasn't got any better so I'd decided to split it before I even posted the message. I figured some of you with more experience would concur and it sounds like you guys are thinking the way I am...and I think you're right about the 9 inch clutch because most people are saying the 4 speeds had it and mine is a 4 speed....thanks for your time

Can't say for sure but I know on the 801s they are not. They use differant number of splines on the input shafts.
