Picked up an Allis WD the other day for restoration. When I went to clean the tank I found some kind of goo on the bottom of the tank. I tried using gas and parts cleaner solvent to remove it but nothing seems to work. I suspect it is old gas but looks like tar. Any help would be appreciated

I had no luck with anything short of Laquer thinner. I tried paint thinner, kerosene, acetone, choke cleaner, coca-cola and others, but had no luck. I have heard that placing a piece of chain in with the laquer thinner and shaking it helps.

Brake fluid izz the only thing I have found that will loosen this stuff up, Git a sample and pour sum brake fluid on it in a cup. It may take a few days to dissolve it to were you kin git it out of the tank. I have sum of the best carb cleaner and it will not remove the tar substance.

Muriatic acid will leave the tank bright and shiny inside. Use with caution.

Buy a gallion of carb cleaner and put in it and let it sit for about 24 hours. Only trouble is the cost.
