I have an "E" model 1 1/2 h.p. John Deere and am having trouble getting it to idle slow. I took the cover off under the flywheel and I see a large screw with a back up nut, I assume this is probably used to get the correct measurement I need to get the engine to idle slolwy, but need some advice on the procedure to make the correct adjustment in this area.

You are on the right track.Adj is under the cover. Less spring tension will slow down the RPM Ron Mn.

Larry-I will try to remember to check my E out tomorrow. Don't believe you need to do anything internal-but not sure. If you are still watching this post let me know and if I can't figure mine out I can find out for you. Seems like you use the air mixer (carb) to do it. Jack
