I have an International Harvester 239DT engine. I am currently gathering info and parts info to rebuild it in the spring. I am looking at a kit from agkits.com that is a rebuild kit. I have a couple of questions to anyone who may be able to help me:
1. The kit contains main bearings. The guy on the phone said that it is an inframe kit and that mains can be put in without pulling the engine!! I have never heard of this! Is it possible to put mains in with the engine in the frame????? Seals?Help me on this one! I would like to rebuild it without pulling the engine, but I think the guy is nuts! Is he or am I??? :o)

2. Any advice where I can get rebuild kits or parts online other than agkits.com???

THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!!

239 Oil Pressure in reply to DF, 01-23-2006 06:14:06
Low oil pressure can sometimes be traced to worn cam bearings on these engines.

you most certainly do an "inframe". take the main caps off one at a time and slide the bearing around and out, then slide the new one in and put the cap back on. you won't beable to check the crank but that is a gamble you have to decide to take. i knew my 766 w/ a 360 was never opened and when i slide the bearings out they looked good so i just slide new ones in. my 706 on the other hand, slide the bearings out and yikes! that one got split and a reworked crank.

Thanks for the info. I am only the second owner on my tractor. It is all original. it runs great, but i think it ate an oil ring.... crank should be fine. I will take your advice and just slide in new mains. Thanks!

please don't "just take my advice"! i don't wanna be blamed when something goes wrong. only you can be the judge if the bearings and/or crank look okay. if i had more time and money i would have taken the crank out and done it right, but the 766 was my main tractor at the moment and i needed it running. i took a gamble and so far it is working, not saying that it will work everytime.

YOU HAVE TO DECIDE IF IT'S WORTH THE RISK!!!!!
