Outdated board software

Some time ago, when you polled us about the board software, I was one who was NOT prepared to see this old "homey" software "go".

After one of the "crashes", when the "Alternative Board" was up, I realized how good it was, and posted, suggesting change wasn't so bad, after all, and how it would probably take a lot of weight off of your shoulders replacing this "hand-built" software with an "off the shelf" product.

I have NO IDEA what the cost to you folks would be to change software, to a system that can handle the volume you've built up, but I hope you will consider it.

Specifically, what brought this post on was several attempts to use the SEARCH function.

As it is, it just plain SUCKS. I just now searched for a thread I KNOW was on the "N" Board within the last couple of months, and got NO "hits" that were at all current.

That's typical, and I think having a better search function, alone, is a good reason for newer software. It would be a great help for folks to see previous threads on a problem they may be having, RELIABLY, instead of the "hit-and-miss search system that is now in place.

I have to admit to not being a $$$ contributor to this site, but would definitely consider it, as I'm sure a lot of others would, if you would consider updating, and throw a $$$ number out there, for folks to see what you are dealing with.

In closing, PLEASE change software!

CC, you are just plain wrong about that.

The new software works much better and is certinly not "glitch-filled" as you claim.

The archives of most website forums are tiny just compared to the N board archives, let alone the entire YTmag website.

Right now there are 339 pages in the N archives, each page having a list of about 300, the majority of which are threads, with each of those threads having what seems to be an average of roughly 10 posts. That amounts to about ten million posts that people have made.

The same crucial search words have been repeated thousands of times: sparkies, paint, tires, voltage, tank, wheel, Ford, etc.

The N board is a social club as much as a tractor fixin' place, so important search words get used again and again in threads that are off-topic. Right now there's a thread about Nicola Tesla at the top the N board's page 1, and search words like 'Ferguson,' AC,' etc. are in the discussion.

It would take mind-reading software to home in on specific thread or post in the N board archives.

I've used the search function at other forums with "modern" software once in a great while, and they don't seem to be any better in spite of the fact that their archive content is only a small fraction of the content of the N board.
