Re: ud18 information in reply to BpeteM, 01-30-2006 07:13:31
The International UD-18 was one of three large 6 cylinder diesel power units made in the 1940's and early 1950's.
The smallest was the UD-16, which was a 6 cylinder version of the 4 cylinder UD-9
The larger UD-18 was derived from the TD-18 crawler and the gigantic UD-24 was from the TD-24 crawler.
The UD-16 and 18 both had grilles and hoods that resembled the 1940's "Letter Series" IH tractor range.
There may be a "tag" (data plate) on the bell-housing or back panel with a serial number.
The serial number prefix for the UD-18 was, I think, "UDR". The two other models I don't know.
If the tag is missing there is usually an engine number stamped on the No.1 (front) cylinder head on the R.H. side of the engine.
Occasionally the model decals, which are on the side panels of the grille, are visible, even under new paint.
Try and find the serial number including any prefix or suffix.
The suffix can indicate what machine the engine was originally fitted to.
Post this information back to this forum.
I will try and "decipher" any codes.
