I know this is really an obscure engine to want information on. Is there a site that I could find engine specs ie. bore and stroke; fuel pump model; any history on there development. What were their applications. I found one book one ebay but the owner is pretty proud of it. The Cummins web site had nothing on older engines. They just want to sell the new stuff. Pictures would be great. I kind of a cummins old engine nut. bjr

The company I work for, Iowa 80 Group now has one of these engines. We recently obtained this unit. I have some operating books and parts books for this engine. The bore and stroke are 7" x 10" for 2309 cubic inches. The fuel pump is a disk type. The one we have powers a generator set. I was told by a long term employee of Cummins that sone were used to power oil field drilling equipment. The engine alone weighs 7500 pounds. I have seen one other model L on ebay.

I suppose it's as they say it's relative as to what is considered old. It appears that anything more than about 5 yrs old isn't supported by Cummins, now. It also gives me the impression they, Cummins, maybe don't want bring up the past. I know they must have struggled developing the engines back in the very early stages, 1920 thru say 1950's, but I would enjoy reading about what they learned along the way, history. I wonder how we have to have the high speeds on the engines today. I've worked on these high speed vibrating marvels all in the name of efficiency. I'm wandering now. I'm not in a hurry, but would like to find some information on the early attemps of manufacturing the diesel engines. bjr

If you haven"t already, Google vintage engines, antique engines, stuff like that; there"re several pretty good sites"l come up (enginads. com is the only one I can think of off the top of my head)...if your engine was used in other stuff ( trucks, welders, whatever) Google vintage and antique whatever it was used in...or try index sites (dmoz.com again is the only one I can think of) for links Good luck.
