Info Needed: United, De Laval and Cushman Engine

Hi there: I have brought home three engines from my father in law recently. One is a United 2 hp type A. One is a De Laval type VW (Can't read the HP) and the third is a Cushman Model C (Also can't read the HP).

I would kind of like to put the United into working order, and it would need the magneto and beveled gear to drive it.

The Cushman is complete as I can tell, with a small odd looking water pump attached to it. It has a lever to engage the pulley. the serial number is 9012

The De Laval engine (serial number 70278) is also missing its ignition system and had the water jacket welded at one time....it does have a neat engine oil level guage on it, an arrow that moves up and down. I would be willing to part with the De Laval in order to get the parts needed for the United. Anyone out there interested or know of where to look?

Would any of you have a general idea of value to attach to them?

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide!

Hi Eastrider, you can use a battery and the primary side of a coil to fire your United and it will work just fine, you may have to adjust your ignitor to hold the points open during it's idle period if you run it a lot. Do you see the little oval shaped pushrod guide near the head? If you get another one of those and replace the mag bracket with it you have a battery model. The mag and gears are a little hard to find, but there are some out there. You may be able to get new gears, but they are expensive, as is the magneto. That's why mine are battery fired. The mag and gears are probably more valuable than your DeLaval.

Thanks for the info. I will have to look into things a little more, and see what I can come up with. I don't know a lot about the engines, since I play more with the bigger tractors. They are down at my dad's place so I will look at them some more this weekend, I suppose. We have three engines that do run, so getting one or more of these others going would be nice.
