I've aquired a Montgomery-Wards Powerlite Electric Plant model 74MX4931E-1. It is a two cylinder water cooled enging. It appears to be quite old. It has a crank similar to an old tractor for starting. The odd thing about the engine is that the pistons move up and down at the same time and appear to fire at the same time? Seems it would be a rough running engine? Any info out there on these? I had to unstick the pistons....I think the rings may still be stuck...not much compression but a HUGE blue spark! Thanks

This may be an older Onan. Check out the SmokStak group as they have lots of info on older electric plants

While the pistons travel up and down at the same time and you get a spark on both plugs at the same time you will find the valve movement is 360 degrees apart. Thus you get an even distribution of the power strokes, one for each revolution of the crankshaft, just like the Wisconsin THD.

good luck
