I am looking for any kind of information on what kind of applications used the Continental Y112 engine in the 1939-1940 time frame. Does anyone know a good place that might have this kind of information? Are there any clubs or anybody who would be real good experts on this engine? I have a picture of a Continental engine from this time period and I am trying to figure out where it might have been used. Is there a way to read the casting dates on the block and head? Thanks!

Interesting: one source showed that Bantam 1/4 ton as a BY4112; have no idea what the "BY" designates...a quick riffling only turned up:
Buffalo-Springfield KT-7 (no years);
Some Clarkat B's 1946-48;
Some Towmotor LT's: 35,40,44.48, but no years. (All these for Y112)
"Some" means listings showed more than one engine used. I have next to nothing on Ag eqpmt (Combines, Sprayers, etc.), welders, generators or stand-alone power units. If these were produced from 1940 (or earlier) to 1948 (or later) there should be a bunch around. Good luck.

Thanks for the info! I am wondering if you might know what application used this exhaust manifold:

Link

I know it wasn"t a Bantam BY4112 because the exhaust exited downward from the front of the exhaust manifold. This one exited forward with a round flange at the front.

When was the first Y112 engine produced? Thanks!

Sorry, that's all I have. I have no real date/prod numbers info, just a few misc parts catalogs, etc. If nothing turns up here, you might try some of the other old tractor sites or enginads.com; they have a generator and welder forum, as well as antique tractor forums. Something, or a Continental expert, could turn up there. Good luck.

If you"re not familiar with Cont"s engine ID system of the period, for each engine thay had a different ID depending on use. Yours would be Y4112 in "automotive" (truck) use, Y112 in "industrial" use, and PY112 in "power unit " use. The Y4112 was used in the American Bantam military 1/4 ton 40-41 (probably a Jeep; I think Willys used their own engines when they took over Jeep prod., but I"m hazy on the history) so it was probably mostly used in industrial-power unit uses, maybe welders, generators?? I have a few catalogs I can check, but very little on those uses. Good luck.
