Hello Group , I have a IXA 4 cylender Hercules engine on a Ground Power Plant that was used by the military . As the engine warms up , the oil perssure drops . Is this engine a bearing insert or babbit design ? It was manufactured in 1950 .

If it is a poured bearing it will have shims to adjust it. Also remember military Hercules engines take different size bearings if it is an insert type.Worse get to worse pull the pan and do a bearing leak check.

Mostly they are poured babit bearings. One of the big things about oil preasure in this engine is the oil filter,it is a bypass type.So if more oil goe's through the filter less goes to the engine and less preasure. If a new paper filter has been installed the preasure is often low.
