Hi folks. I'm looking for some basic info for a LeRoi XP1 engine. Here is what is on the tag
model XP1
stroke 3 1/2
bore 2 7/8
serial 211706
A year of production would be great and a source for a manual would be terrific. This engine is in a CH&E 3 ton roller. I am currently cleaning it up and doing a valve job. Hope to have it running soon. Thanks Chuck

I had another look. It still looks like a XF. It is crank start with an open flywheel and flat belt pulley. I dug around and found the book I got on ebay. It is for an XF 1-17 SN 138284. It seems they custom made a book for each engine by filling in little squares in the parts lists for the parts app. to a particular engine. There is also a section on care and feeding.

I have an engine similar to yours. I thought it was an XF1 but the second letter is not stamped very plainly. Did not know XP was a possibility. It has a Zenith carb and a direct gear drive Wico mag.. Mine was driving a large construction table saw. It has been gone through and is on it's original cradle. Runs well. S/N 133443 Don't know year. I have very little info and what I have has disappeared off the desk. There are pictures of similar on the web but I have not been able to find a match till now. Thanks

John, Olsen's can be found online. I have thier number here somewhere if I look. I also found out the model number first letter is the engine model "X" the next letters and numbers have to do with the configuration, flywheel, PTO, ect. I have found some info but not much. I really need to find a cam. But if you want to send me a email I will try to share what info I have. Chuck

Thanks for the replies. John your engine does sound like mine. Through a local engine rebuilder I found a listing for XP1 and I bought gaskets from Olsen's for it. My engine is hand crank only and actually doesn't even have a belhousing. The flywheel just hangs out in the open. Nice to hear of someone else who has one of these. From what I learned LeRoi sold the small engine division to Waukesha sometime in the 1940's but info is hard to come by. Chuck

Thanks for the effort. Yes this is a small engine I think around 90 cid. hand start only. I also found that CH&E made some stationary engines. It's a interesting combination and both the engine and roller are hard to find info about. But maybe it is also because it is a roller. Less people are interested in collecting them. But I'm kinda strange anyway so all this old iron suits me fine. Chuck

Well, this's no Christmas present. On the off chance you haven't already been told this a hundred times, the story goes that when Wauk bought LeRoi, they destroyed every bit of literature they could on then-existing engines (to be able to sell more new ones, just like Singer Sewing Machine Co., that smashed trade-ins with sledgehammers to get them off the market). If you haven't already thought of it, you could try running the archived posts here (and other sites) email anyone looking for LeRoi info, to see if they turned up any sources, or had something on your model they'd share. Good luck.

Walter Miller may have something. He has a ton of literature and sells on eBay under the name of autolit.com. He has much more than just auto stuff. Email and ask about what you want. I got a parts book for a very rare Cat road grader (Only 56 built, Mine is the 17th.) a few years back. Good Luck, Dave.
