I have recently bought a go-kart with a BSA engine and would like some infomation on it. It says:

BSA power unit
420cc
pp51
H13
2200 rpm

Any infomation (age, horsepower etc) would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know anything about your engine, but I've had many BSA bikes 50s to 60s - including 650 CC twins, 750 triples, and the old "thumper" 440 c.c. single-cylinder, low speed-high torque dirt bike. It was called -I think - the "440 Victor."

I've also seen many go-carts (some years ago) with Indian, BSA, and Royal Enfield bike engines. A few cars were manufactured with Royal Enfield or BMW bike engines.

It's probably an old motorcycle engine. I don't know if BSA made general purpose engines. They might have as I think a motorcyle would rev higher than 2200 rpm. Try looking up BSA on the web. Dave

BSA definitely made engines for "other than motorcycle use".

Here's one link. GOOGLE will turn up many more.
