I have an only 60s model Clinton single cylinder 3 3/4 HP push mower, right? (I like fixing up old mowers) Well, I am getting spark about 8 times out of 10, and need to be getting spark every time. I replaced the coil with a brand new Techuseh coil, it fit perfect. I need to know what the gap would be between the flywheel, and the coil. Also, I need to know what the point gaps would be. Thanks!

Some of those Clinton points had a riveted contact that got loose with use. Try an other set of points.

Most all small engine mags use .020 inch point gap. Many Clintons had a little projection on the cover that went over the points that you used to adjust the point gap. Many had an arrow that pointed at this projection that said .020". I do not think you can adjust the gap between the coil laminations and the flywheel. The lamination mount on a shoulder onthe block that is around where the crankcome through. Check the flywheel side main bearing for play. It may be loose which can cause the point gap to vary.
