Hi all, just salvaged an old BSA Power Unit from my local tip. Having spent the past 2 hours searching the net I'm no closer to identifying the model/age/origin etc.
It's a top-valve model with a split paraffin/petrol fuel tank. The numbers stamped on the casing read "120CMG PP5536 SR" - presumably indicating it's 120cc.
First impressions suggest it could run with some fuel in the tank. It appears complete and has good compression so fingers crossed.
Any info would be gratefully received.

On a possibly more helpful note; in the archives here are a few posts re" BSA stationaries, one of which mentions a top-valve model. If you"re not familiar with the archives here they can be a bit confusing, but go to "Search This Site" on the left side of the home page; you should get a search page. Or you can Google "bsa stationary engine" and a ytmag hit will come up (Googling bsa engine gets all the motorcycle people). Click on the posters name if it"s in color and you can email him for help. My apologies if I"m belaboring the obvious here. Best wishes.

Hi and thanks for the suggestions. I did try both your ideas before posting here - in fact it was a google search that originally led me to this site. I have found mention of a top valve model but unfortunatly that was all it was - a mention. I've found a number of references and images of small side valve BSA's but not this lump. Anyway, I always find the research almost as rewarding as the tinkering so I'll enjoy the ride!

Well, let"s see: if you search just the Stationary Engine forum for BSA engine a list of 76 comes up (with lots of duplications). Theoretically the #1 is the most recent. You"ll see they"re kinda in batches, but click on any one: if it says on top "return to forum" you"ve got the whole thread (the original post and all replies). If it says "show entire topic" on top, click on "entire topic" until it says "return to forum"
While there"s a lot of people looking for info, one says a Frank Jarkey in Sydney has some parts (or did in 5-2001), and that manuals are available from vintagemanuals.co.uk and K2canteen@supernet.com (or were in 4-04). Almost all postings I saw had open Email; any of the then owners may well have since learned of parts/info sources. There"s also a post on running the archives at engineads/smokstak, but I couldn"t follow it, but there"s enough contacts in the "76" to keep you busy for awhile. There"s also tomm.com.au, if you"re there. Good luck.

Can"t help on ID, but it"ll be interesting to see if anyone asks how you burn wax in an engine (it"s usually called kerosene here). What"d Winnie say: "we"re two peoples separated by a common language..." or some such. Good luck.
