What is the correct procedure to set the governor on the two cylinder Maytags? The one that you reach through the pipe plug in the top of the engine. I see that there are two plugs that screw into the crankshaft, and inside is a brass weight. Should both plugs be screwed in all the way, or backed out same on both? The engine runs fine, I just wondered what the correct way was to set it. Brian

The governor screw #14435 and limit screw in the opposite end of the hole through the crankshaft look the same. The screw to adjust the speed can be distinguished as it holds the end of the cotter pin to which the governor spring is attached. Turning the screw to the right (clockwise) decreases speed while turning it to the left (counterclockwise) increases speed.

The governor regulates the flow of fuel and thereby controls the speed.

The governor seldom requires adjustment and generally a variation in speed is caused by improper air adjustment, incorrect adjustment of spark plug gap or improper adjustment of the magneto point gap or finally a buildup of carbon deposits.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Vern, the print is great. A picture is always worth a thousand words.
