I have a Wisconsin AHH with a Wico X mag on it. I don"t know much about mags. Does this mag advance the spark as rpm"s increase? If not what are those little things flopping around under the drive coupler? This engine has good compression, carb is rebuilt, starts and idles good. Problem is when it gets revved up it starts laboring and has no power,as if the timing is retarded. Richening the fuel mixture does no good. It also heats the exhaust very fast. I rotated the plate under the coupler to advance the timing some but it then would kick back on startup, took it back like it was. It just sounds and acts like an engine that needs more advance as it revs up. Help

A blocked main jet in the carby will cause this problem. Even though you open the mixture screw the fuel does not get through. Remove the carby and clean it out, you may be surprized at what you find.

Is the mag timed correctly to the engine? It maybe off by a tooth.

The mag has an impluse coupleing that retards the spark when starting, you should hear it snap. When it runs the impluse does not work so the spark is advanced all at once. If the impluse is not working the spark is often off when it runs.
