I have a model LUC power unit ser# C37218 and it has a clutch with gear reduction drive. Can someone help me out as to what this is off of, year made, HP, output speed of drive, did some come with electric start and where I could obtain a repair and operators manual?

Any help would be very much appreciated. Dave

The LUC.(L= L series, U=unit, C=combine) was built by John Deere and was usually found on their 12-A combine and a very few of the early 25 series combines. The engine is approximately 12-14 hp and I think the reduction was 2:1. Long time since I worked for Deere dealership and don't recall ever seeing one with an electric starter, The LA tractor and the LUS, (L=series,U=unit,S=stationary)had starters available. Most combine units did not have a ring gear on the flywheel even though they had the hole in the bellhousing for the starter. The manuals may be available through Deere. The engine is basically the same as the LA tractor with a toggle type clutch action and gearbox added. Thet were tough.

Combine engines did not have starters.
